Forgiveness is such sweet sorrow

Damage comes in many forms. Some cases come to us like an arrow from the bow we saw coming, but could not avoid the blow fast enough. Other forms of hurtfulness build gradually. Every day, just another insult, another refusal. Sometimes we do not even know we are picking up the wounded feelings until we begin to unravel, and our behavior changes in different ways. Perhaps we become depressed, angry, hypersensitive, or abusive to those around us. Sometimes we are so deeply ingrained in our pain that forgiveness seems to be the dumbest solution to our problems. But in the end, we learn forgiveness is mild pain release.

In concrete terms, forgiveness is a decision to put aside the feelings of resentment towards the person(s) who inflicted the pain. Thoughts of revenge can disappear. To be sure, forgiveness does not mean that that the person is relieved of their responsibility of their actions against us. This does not mean that his act was less or hurtful. Forgiveness is just passing the peace and positive thinking. It is possible to forgive without excusing the act. What is the difference? Forgiveness is letting go of anger while realizing the person committing the act has no control over your emotions.

Sometimes, forgiveness is a deep sense of release, especially if we have clung to the anger and resentment for a long period of time. The instance of forgiveness may seem like a huge relief. Our body will feel less stress, lower blood pressure, less anxiety, more energy and reduced anger. By letting go of the anger, it will be easier for us to accept spiritual guidance. Depression and sadness begin to disappear as well.

Why is it so easy to get angry and stay angry? Why hold a grudge? Response to a painful event is natural. In fact, if there is no reaction , it can be a sign of repressed feelings. Repressed feelings can lead to resentment. Resentment can lead to negative behavior towards people around us. If we are always negative, people around us feel bad and angry. Then a vicious circle begins. There is an old Buddhist proverb of anger: "Holding onto anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else that burns."

to overcome this, we must decide to change. To forgive a grievance, we must move away from living life as a victim and take control of our lives and our attitude. By not letting the anger continue to control our thoughts, feelings and actions, we can transform our lives by gaining a new perspective. This includes empathy, understanding, patience and love. Do not think about the time of anger. Focus on the life to come.

Sometimes, in these modern times of progressive thought, forgive and forget is supposed to go together. The power of forgiveness is letting go of anger so that we can have peace and happiness in our lives. At some point we can temporarily forget about an event that happened to us that angered us or hurt us, but we may not forgive. In order to heal, we must forgive our "attacker" completely. Because forgiveness changes our perspective, the act in question will fade but will not be forgotten. Forgiveness dissolves anger, resentment, and heals us.

To forgive someone is not to expect them to change, but allow us to heal from the inside. We are not hurting that person by holding onto our hurt, anger, or resentment. We are only hurting ourselves. We can not change another person, and we cannot forgive until we were ready. When we are ready, we much forgive the person with our whole heart; and, if possible, tell the person we forgive them. They may be relieved that they were forgiven, or they may not accept your forgiveness. That is on them. When we release what we have been holding onto for so long, we can finally love ourselves and open ourselves to be loved by others.

Most of us are afraid to step out of our comfort zone. What is our comfort zone? That area where we feel safest, most secure, status quo. In other words, it's where we live without experiencing excitement or test ourselves in anyway.

Have you ever wanted to try something new - such as skydiving, water skiing, snow skiing on something more than the bunny trails, a new career, having children - but you didn't feel comfortable about it, it terrified you, or you were "just too busy"? These are all excuses.

I stepped out of my comfort zone and became the proud new owner of a traffic exchange - Redline Traffic. Was this really way out of my comfort zone? A resounding "YES!" But I have seriously been thinking about owning one for a while now. Through the encouragement of a few friends, I took the plunge on December 31, 2009. Am I a little bit afraid of what is to come? Yes. Am I excited about the new experience and what I am going to learn? Most definitely, yes.

Did I write this blog to entice you to try out my new site? Yes. But the real reason is that we all need to step outside of our comfort zones to really live and experience life. Does that mean we need to do something dangerous, such as skydiving? Absolutely not. It does mean getting out of our rut and trying new things. Read a book to a child, volunteer at the local soup kitchen, try a new hobby, or scuba dive (if you do want to add a little danger to the mix).

I encourage each of you to try something new every day, so that at the end of your life (as well as mine), you and I can say, "I really lived my life to the fullest. I have no regrets of working too long, not spending enough time with my family, or not sharing my life with people." Start the new year off by truly living.

Also, since the link generator is the tool you'll use most, it is also right at the top of the main page when you login. Very smart!

I'm so excited! My birthday is today, and I turned 45 today. I am spending it with my family and some friends. We're hanging out at the house enjoying each others' company. We're watching movies together, talking, sharing, playing, and having a relaxing good time.

Today is not a perfect day as far as the weather goes. It's 72 on January 10. It's damp and overcast, but it's a beautiful day to me because I'm alive and well loved by family and friends!

Snow!!

Wow!!! It snowed in southwest Mississippi yesterday (12/11/08)!! It started out as rain; then frozen rain; then sleet; then sleet and snow; then big beautiful flakes of snow! It was beautiful except for the ice that formed on the roads.

Schools closed all in this area of the state because we don't know how to drive in this stuff. It's foreign to us. But we sure know how to play in it. The kids built a snowman in the front yard. They went to the neighbors house and had a snowball fight. The only bummer was the electricity went out around 8:45 AM yesterday, and it still wasn't on when I left for work this morning. Needless to say, I didn't get to take a shower this morning in 51 degrees F inside my house. I was just so happy that I had a roof over my head, warm blankets on my body, a warm hubby next to me, and a fire in the fireplace. Thank God for many favors!

1) build a list
2) build a relationship with that list

Today is Thursday, September 4. School started back today and so did work.

McComb looks a lot better today than it did 3 years ago. Most of the trees I saw down went down in the yards instead of on the houses. Even with over 12 inches of rain, wind gusts up to 30 or 40 MPH, and tornado warnings everywhere, we all were very lucky!

Thank you, God!

Now let's hope Hanna, Ike, and Josephine have other travel plans.....

Wow! This has been a crazy Labor Day weekend! Friday, Aug. 29, was officially the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina hitting the Mississippi Gulf Coast and New Orleans. Being in McComb, MS, we were on the east side of the storm…by about 60 miles! The winds were so wild – first from the north, then from the south. We got a total of 4 inches over 24 hours! Not too bad. We were very luck though. We had one small limb hit our house. Only damage we sustained on our house was a bent gutter. We lost 4 trees in our yard.

Yesterday was Monday. Katrina hit on a Monday morning around 6:00 AM. Marty and I got up around 5:00 AM to see what was going to happen. The wind was already wild!!!!

Yesterday was another Monday and another hurricane. Luckily (or not depending on how you look at it), we were on the west side of Hurricane Gustav. It was first predicted to hit New Orleans again. This time people from the Mississippi Gulf Coast and Louisiana didn't HESITATE to evacuate. It didn't take them two hurricanes to learn their lesson. The first one was extremely hard on them….. We got up at 5:00 AM again because Marty thought he had to go to work. The wind was starting to blow, but it never got as hard as last time. We got 6 inches of rain. Big difference from last time. Because Gustav went almost straight west, I assumed (dumb, I know) that the weather would start clearing up. Little did I know that was not to be the case.

Our lights went out several times yesterday. They went out for the last time around 7:00 PM. We played games by candlelight until we decided we'd go to bed early. The weather got very bad last night. There were 2 tornado warnings – one around 1:30 AM and one around 3:15 AM. We had slept with our windows open for air, so we had no problem hearing the sirens since we live only a mile or so from the source! The electricity came on around 8:00 AM today. We were so glad because we could finally take a warm shower. (Cold water even in summer is too cold to bath in!)

I thought the weather would be so much better today, again, because Gustav was moving away from us. Again, I was wrong. We had several tornado warnings throughout the day. We got another 6 inches of rain. This is dangerous for us because we have so many trees throughout our city that are hardwoods. What does that mean for us? Shallow roots! One or two good gusts could knock down some of these hundred year old (and older) trees. Very scary if one is standing over your house!

I'm sending out a prayer for everyone of us affected by Gustav – whether by property or by job. I'm also sending out a big THANK YOU for all the electric company men who put their lives on the line to get the electricity back on as quickly as they can and for all the civil servants who worked to keep things in order.
