Many women consider a transition to work-at-home mom status when they have their first child. As the children keep coming, this lifestyle beckons women from the traditional workforce, promising more family time while providing additional income that families sorely need in this economy. How do so many women make this transition? Planning and organization. Planning and organization can enable any women to leave traditional work life behind as they take up the helm of a successful work-at-home mom.
During the planning phase of this transition, a mom should study three very important aspects of her life and goals. She should get to know the rhythm of her family. When do the kids nap? What activities do they need to be happiest during the day? Understanding the amount of time children will require can help a mom assess what she will have left to invest in her business. Second, she should research home business opportunities she is most interested in. What options does she have with the resources at her disposal? Third, how quickly can she make this transition and what help will she have? Moms should know how much child care help they can count on from family members.
The organization phase of this transition includes implementing ideas and strategies recognized during planning. Moms who are in touch with the daily flow of their family can schedule work times during naps and play times. Setting up this time as you would a doctor appointment or meeting can ensure you enter into your work time with your head in the game. Allowing plenty of time for the difficulties of start up allows many moms to maintain their cool even when plans don’t go off without a hitch. During organization, a work-at-home mom might feel overwhelmed at times, but the next phase is success and that makes all of this planning worth while.
